Such a simple four-letter word, the word “HOPE!” However, it’s a POWERFUL and IMPORTANT word…important enough that it is mentioned in the Bible 129 times in 121 different verses. One of the most well-known scriptures about HOPE is found in Jeremiah 29:11 where it says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
What else is there, if we don’t have HOPE? It would be a pretty scary place to live. And you know how I know that? Because I allow myself to go there on occasion. How often do we think that we can do it on our own? That is what it would be like without God’s gift of HOPE!
One of my favorite verses is found in Romans 12:12, where it pretty much sums up the way we should ALWAYS view our lives: “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” No matter where you find yourself in life, just remember the promise of HOPE!
And God’s promise of HOPE is well documented in Hosea 2:15, where He says, “God is the ONLY one who can make the valley of trouble a door of HOPE.” (emphasis added)
Don’t give up, no matter where you find yourself in this crazy holiday season. Psalm 62:5 explains it best: “My soul waits quietly before God, He is my only hope.”
During this holiday season, if you find yourself in a place where you have an abundance of HOPE, be the giver of HOPE to those who are struggling. It quite possibly may be the best thing you can do.
Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see
