We have started a new series in children’s ministry called “I AM DIFFERENT.” In the middle of a lesson, Pastor Phil always says to the kids, “I am different because…” and the kids yell “of God.” In the first lesson of this series, Pastor Phil taught that we should think, live, love, and talk differently because we are followers of Jesus. What a simple but profound message. Just stop for a minute and think about close relationships you have in your life or in your work environment and ask, “Do I look different than the world?” Don’t feel bad if you said no! This is something all of us have to work on. We are human beings and the only perfect person in the world is JESUS!

God has given us something so amazing that helps us look different to the world. He gave us the Holy Spirit to be with us, guide us, and help us through every situation. Pastor Phil used the example of a light that you would use to light a tent. He asked the kids, “Don’t you think this is cool?” The kids didn’t really find it cool when the light was off, but then he turned it on and it glowed so bright which caught their attention. He said, “I knew you kids would like it, but you didn’t believe me until the light was turned on.” He turned it off again, then asked the same question, and the kids thought it was so cool because they had seen it. It is the same with the Holy Spirit…He is in us and wants to have a relationship with us. We have to use Him to guide us in situations or ask Him to give us the right words in the middle of our conversations. The Holy Spirit doesn’t ever leave us, but we turn Him off sometimes when our sins or our own wants get in the way. Here is the cool thing about the Holy Spirit…when you realize you are sinning, you only need to stop, repent, and ask the Holy Spirit to start helping you.

As you go through your week, I encourage you to remind yourself “I am different because of HIM (GOD).” Stop and ask the Holy Spirit to walk with you and talk with you through everything you do.

But the Father will send the Friend in my name to help you. The Friend is the Holy Spirit.

He will teach you all things. He will remind you of everything I have said to you.
