That is the question that so often wreaks havoc on my mind. What if say the wrong thing? What if I go left when I should have gone right? What if my kids get sick? What if my spouse loses her job? What if…What if…What if? We can fill each and every circumstance we face with that question. When asked in this way, the question WHAT IF focuses on the circumstances of our lives and our abilities to handle them, and when we ask WHAT IF in this way, we fill our minds and our hearts with fear.
But WHAT IF we asked the same question in a different way? WHAT IF, instead of focusing on circumstances out of our control, we take that question to God and remember His promises?
WHAT IF God is in control of my life?
WHAT IF He really is for me?
WHAT IF He really can calm the storms of my emotions and circumstances?
WHAT IF I do the best I can to walk this day in faith and trust the outcome to God?
WHAT IF He really does love me?
This flips the WHAT IF question right on its head, and turns our hearts to the one who can really do something about all the circumstances that are out of our control.
For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you,
“Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you,”
declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
