Was there ever a time in your life when you depended on just your feelings to make a huge decision? Let me ask it another way. Was there ever a time you had a feeling that something was so very, very right, and then when you did it…it ended up so very, very disastrous?

One thing I’ve learned over the years is this: Feelings lie. They lie to us all the time. There was an old country song that went, “How can it be wrong when it feels so right?” The truth is, there are a ton of wrong things that feel so right at the moment. I am the pastor that couples come to when they want to get married. I ask, “Why are you getting married?” They almost always say, “We’re in love.” And “It feels so right.” People can get into wrong relationships and then realize they made a huge mistake. Quick decisions may seem harmless but can leave you broken and scarred years later.

If you want to have fewer dead ends and failures in your life, look at what the Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-7. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil” (NLT, second edition).

Do you really want God’s blessing on your life? Then you need learn to depend on God’s wisdom and not what your feelings are saying or what your gut is telling you.

So, do you want to know how to get God’s wisdom? You pray. You ask. You talk to God, and you let Him speak to you by reading His Word (the Bible). That’s how you get God’s wisdom.

The Bible says in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (NIV).

God wants to protect you from making dumb mistakes. God wants to protect you from hitting dead ends or going through failure after failure in your life. God really does want you to succeed. He really does want you to make wise decisions with your time, relationships, and money.

If you want to receive God’s blessings, you’ve got to get God’s wisdom. If you want God’s wisdom, then you’ve got read your Bible.
