How great is the goodness
you have stored up for those who fear you.
You lavish it on those who come to you for protection,
blessing them before the watching world.

Psalm 31:19 (NLT)

I struggle with insecurities and self-doubt in almost every aspect of my life, but especially with my job. The questions consistently start to creep in. Am I really where God wants me to be? Am I making a big enough impact? Do I have what it takes to get our youth ministry to where I know it needs to be? Is the time, stress, and heartbreak that comes along with investing heavily in people’s lives worth it? What do people really think about me? With each question, the doubt builds and builds and builds.

So this past Wednesday, I walked into the Chapel, LCC’s Worship Night, with all of those questions running through my mind. Am I enough? Can I do this? God, do you know what you’re doing? Pastor Michael called us up front, invited us into this worshipful atmosphere, and the band began the first song, Here as in Heaven. And what are the first lines of that song?

The atmosphere is changing now
For the Spirit of the Lord is here
The evidence is all around
That the Spirit of the Lord is here

As I looked around me, I saw my beautiful wife who I somehow suckered into marrying me and who is my number one fan despite my many flaws. Evidence of God’s goodness. Beyond that, I realized I was literally surrounded by 30-40 youth in full blown worship, seeking God with all their hearts. Evidence of God’s goodness. I felt God ask me in that moment, “Do you need any more evidence than this?” Do I understand God’s plan? Nope. Have all my questions been answered? Nope. Do I feel qualified? Nope. Can I see the evidence of God’s goodness and leadership in my life? Yes.

I share all of this to encourage you this week to find the evidence in your life of God’s goodness.  Some days it may feel difficult to find, but I have no doubt it is there. As you do this, remember the advice Paul gave to his young protégé Timothy when he said, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power…” (2 Timothy 1:7  NLT)  Find your power and strength in the evidence of God’s goodness.
