Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all.
Run to God! Run from evil!
Your body will glow with health,
your very bones will vibrate with life!
Honor God with everything you own;
give him the first and the best.
Your barns will burst,
your wine vats will brim over.
But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline;
don’t sulk under his loving correction.
It’s the child he loves that God corrects;
a father’s delight is behind all this.
Proverbs 3:5-12 (MSG)
In life, we seem to always want to do things our way. We think we need to have everything planned out for God, but we don’t! He knows what is best for us, so we need to put God first in all of our plans. Then He can bless us more than we could ever imagine. In order for all of this to work, He wants to have the number one spot in our lives.
I know it is hard to put God number one because you feel like you would fail at your marriage, not spend enough time with your kids, not have enough time for your friends or family, and not have enough money for you to give some to God. These are all things satan is putting in your head! When you put God number one in everything, your marriage will thrive, you will have plenty of time with your kids, and you will be able to teach them about Him. You will be a better friend, sibling, daughter, or son to your family. When you tithe (putting God number one), He will honor you and help you with your finances. He is so faithful!
From an early age, I have always been told to put God first. It isn’t always easy, and I still fail. There are some situations where I would look at it, and say there is no way He can fix this! When I stop and put Him first, He gives me peace in the middle of the crazy situations. He sees what is happening, and He is in total control. The situation might not be fixed right away, or the way I wanted, but just like a good Father He knows what I need!
Today, take some time and think about your life. Think about the situations where you haven’t put God first. Give those things to God, and ask Him to help you today to come to Him first.
