In the same way, let your light shine so others can see it.

Then they will see the good things you do.

And they will bring glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 NIRV

Every night before bed, we sing my daughter songs. We start out with fun and silly preschool type songs, but always make sure to sing one or two worship songs before she goes to sleep. I love this time with her. One night as I was singing to her and we were rocking, we sang “This Little Light of Mine.” If you aren’t familiar with this children’s song, it is talking about letting your light shine. One of the verses says “Don’t let satan blow it out, I’m gonna let it shine!” My daughter wanted me to keep singing that line over and over. Little did she know, it was me who needed that reminder in that moment.

You see, life has really been hard for me lately. For whatever reason, satan is really trying to have a heyday with me. I’ve had spiritual attacks but never any this intense. Every time I feel like I get my footing, something else happens and just knocks me flat again. I can’t get my footing, I feel like I’m sinking and can’t catch my breath. The battle we are fighting is bigger than us. Sometimes the storm is more than we really can handle. Sometimes life has a way of throwing more at us than we can process. And what I am finding is that unfortunately, satan often times picks on those who are already feeling down and defeated. He picks us out when we are weak, and attacks.

As I sang that line to my daughter, tears streamed down my face, and I honestly just wanted to scream that line from the top of my lungs. I wanted to declare in that moment that satan may be trying to dim and blow out my candle, but I am not going to let that happen. Even if during this season it is barely shining, I’m still going to choose to let my light shine. I’m going to keep going to God even though the darkness surrounds me and I don’t see an end in sight. I’m going to keep shining my light and running after God. I continue to declare this over and over again. Satan, you are NOT going to blow out my light.

Dear friends, my hope for you today is that you choose to let your light shine. The world has a way of weighing us down, and satan will try everything in his power to blow it out. But my greatest prayer for you today is that you will declare out loud just like I did, “You aren’t going to win this one satan, and I’m going to continue to let my light shine!”

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Let it shine! Let it shine! Let it Shine!”

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.

Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through

the same kind of suffering you are.
